What is the cost of an under-educated society?

America loses hundreds of billions of dollars each year when young people fail to graduate from high school, with costs reflected in lost productivity and tax revenues, as well as additional burdens to the health care, public assistance and criminal justice systems. At the individual level, adults become stuck in the cycle of poverty, which eventually closes in on their children. You can turn their despair into hope, interrupt the cycle of poverty in their lives, and instill in their children a love of learning by joining our Legends of Literacy.

Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow

Legacy Statue

$750,000

At the heart of the Legends for Literacy rests the bronze statue of a mother reading to her child - the core of Literacy Council’s vision. When we teach parents, we reach their children.

As a $750,000 donor, your own bronze plaque with your family’s name and tribute will be displayed at the foot of this centerpiece statue.

Additionally, the portion of our endowment designated for our Adult GED and Basic Literacy Programs will bear the donor’s name in perpetuity as the counterpart to the “Louis and Peaches Owen Endowment for English as a Second Language.”

Celebration of Heritage

$500,000

Enthralled by their book, the bronze statue of two children reading celebrates the rich heritage of literacy that is imparted to the next generation when parents are educated.

Celebrate your family’s commitment to education and literacy for generations to come. As a $500,000 donor, your family’s name and tribute will be displayed on your own large, bronze plaque placed prominently by the statue.

Tree of Wisdom

$100,000

Imagine a canopy of mighty oak trees, characterized by wisdom and age. Lasting and strong, they provide respite and encouragement to those persevering. These trees are stalwarts, prominently placed and symbolizing the wisdom which emerges from knowledge.

Our $100,000 donors will be honored with their own significant bronze plaque, bearing the donor’s name and tribute. The plaque will be built into the circle of stones surrounding this grand tree.

Books of Knowledge

$50,000

This whimsical bronze statue depicts a boy carrying a stack of books so high, he is about to topple over. Clearly an avid reader with an insatiable thirst for learning! This statue is an interactive experience to which both children and adults will be drawn.

As a $50,000 donor, you will be honored with a substantial commemorative bronze plaque bearing your family’s name and tribute. Your plaque will join plaques of other donors at the level, surrounding the base of this engaging statue.

Trees of Perseverance

$25,000

Build your family’s legacy by donating to Legends for Literacy.

Founding support from Louis and Peaches Owen established Literacy Council’s endowment. Its purpose is to stabilize and continue in perpetuity the mission of LCOT.

A leafy, literary sanctum, located along the Rose Rudman walking trail, was built and is maintained to celebrate literacy in Tyler and to commemorate our Legends for Literacy.
