Youth
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
- The Literacy Council of Tyler offers free GED preparation classes for youth.
- Classes are held at First Presbyterian Church, located at 230 West Rusk in Tyler.
- Our program targets out-of–school youth as well as youth who are at risk of dropping out of school.
- We offer a self paced, year-round program. Each student remains in the program until they are able to successfully pass the GED exam.
- All students are required to attend technology training.
- Leadership development and life skills are incorporated in all program areas.
- Morning, afternoon or night classes are available. Regular attendance is mandatory.
WHO CAN ENROLL
- Youth ages 16 to 21
- 16 year olds cannot be enrolled by the LCOT or take the GED exam without a court order.
- 17 year olds and under must have parent/guardian consent and must be withdrawn from school before first class day.
- Probationers/Parolees
- Home schooled Students
HOW TO ENROLL
Call 903-595-3842 to schedule an appointment for enrollment. The TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) will be administered, and a short interview will be conducted. This will take about three hours to complete.
If the student is 17 or under, a parent/guardian should attend the appointment.
Bring the following documents:
- Social Security Card State ID Card
- Birth Certificate Court Order (if applicable)
