Corporate Spelling Bee

The Literacy Council of Tyler's 20th Annual Corporate Spelling Bee is a fun way to promote team spirit in your organization and support literacy at the same time. The competition is stiff, the costumes outrageous, and the laughter contagious! TEAM INFORMATION

DATE: August 11, 2011

PLACE: CrossWalk Conference at Green Acres Baptist Church

TIME: 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

ENTRY FEE: The entry fee of $500 for the annual Corporate Spelling Bee includes the fees for spellers, their lunches, and 10 additional tickets for a table reserved for your group. Additional tables are available. Recognition for your company will be provided in the paper and all event printing.

SPELLERS: Teams of three, representing their respective corporate sponsors.

OFFICIALS: A Master of Ceremonies, pronouncer, three judges and a timekeeper.

PRIZES: A trophy will be awarded to the winning team.

MULLIGANS: Teams can purchase a mulligan or "word pass" for $25 prior to or at the event. For $50 teams can buy a "stinger" mulligan and pass a tricky word to the team of their choice.

RULES: Each speller will be provided with the rules before the event.

PREPARATION: Teams will receive a 2011 Study Guide for preparation.

AUDIENCE SPELL: Audience members can enter the Audience Spell game for $5 for a chance to win a $100 gift card to Target.

SPIRIT STICK: Each team is encouraged to bring their "swarm" or a cheering squad. A Spirit Stick will be awarded to the team with the loudest and most creative group.

COSTUME CONTEST: A Traveling Teddy Bear dressed in a "Bee" costume will be presented to the group with the most creative costumes. You do not have to be part of a spelling team to participate.

TICKETS: Tickets are available for $25 each. Additional tables can be reserved for your group.

BENEFICIARY: Adult students of the Literacy Council of Tyler.

DURATION: A winner should be announced by 1:30 PM!
